Peace & Development Workshop Proceedings

Forty-five (45) delegates representing seven countries (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan,
Indonesia, Cambodia and the Philippines)participated in the “Peace and Development
Workshop: Recognizing the Role of NGOs in Promoting Peace and Development in Rural Asia”
held on December 8-10, 2004 at the Balay Kalinaw in U.P. Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines.
The Regional Workshop aimed to: (1) facilitate the sharing of experience in and
lessons from peace and development initiatives in the countries represented in the
workshop; (2) come to an understanding of the relevance of NGO initiatives in
conflictaffected areas to promote peace and development; (3) identify the key elements of, and
develop a framework for, effective NGO intervention in conflict-affected areas; and (4)
identify follow-up activities and establish mechanisms for continued sharing and
collaboration among Asian NGO partners.
